Biography of Jussi Björling
Jussi Björling (1911-1960) was a Swedish singer (tenor) and one of the most distinguished vocalists of the 20th century. He hailed from a famous singing dynasty.
Early Career
Björling made his debut in 1930 in Stockholm and achieved success the same year when he performed the role of Don Ottavio in "Don Giovanni." He also performed on German stages and in Copenhagen.
Vienna and International Success
In 1936, Björling began singing with great success at the Vienna Opera, where he performed roles such as Manrico, Rudolf, and Radamès. From 1938, he appeared at the Metropolitan Opera, making his debut as Rudolf and performing other roles including Faust, Richard in "Un ballo in maschera," and Cavaradossi. In 1939, he star
