Antonin Artaud
(Marsella, 1896 - Ivry-sur-Seine, 1948) Poeta, ensayista, actor y director de teatro francés, fundador del teatro de la crueldad. En 1910 publicó sus primeros versos bajo el seudónimo de Louis des Attides. Terminó sus estudios en 1914 y al año siguiente ingresó en una clínica mental en la Rouguière, cerca de Marsella, por padecer fuertes dolores de cabeza crónicos originados a partir de una grave meningitis que sufrió a la edad de cinco años.

En 1920 sus padres lo llevaron a París y conoció al psiquiatra Edouard Toulouse, fundador de la revista científico-literaria Demain, para la cual escribió y trabajó como secretario de redacción. Posteriormente estudió actuación en el Théâtre de l'Oeuvre bajo la dirección de Lugné-Poe, y luego se vinculó con Charles Dullin, que acababa de fundar el Théâtre de l´Atelier, en el que participó como actor y realizador.
